Burning Religion arrived at 2nd Congregational Church in Peabody on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year’s Day 2015. This portion of the message highlights the existential isolation we experience because no one understands how we view the world, we will all experience the sense of feeling alone. In cases of radical differences in worldview, navigating the distance between disagreeing parties remains an impossibility. Typically our solution is to create a series of taboos: things we can not talk about in family settings. Here I discuss the fact that we should consider making peace to be an impossible task. Declaring it to be an impossible task is the first step discovering an answer to our isolation and our violent disagreements.
